Differently Brained is an own voices podcast where each fortnight we interview a neurodiverse guest or a guest who has lived experience with mental health challenges. We talk to a diverse range of people with a focus on telling individual stories and championing the different ways we all exist in the world.
Jacinta Dietrich is a writer and editor who lives on Wurundjeri country in Naarm (Melbourne, Victoria). Jacinta is a wizard with the letters in more ways than one - she is autistic with ADHD for a bit of extra flavour. She also has a family history of suicidality, depression and post-traumatic stress disorder.
Lachlan Rutherford is a writer and editor who lives on Bundjalung country (Lismore, Northern NSW). Lachlan is a master of the brain, with years of mental health highs and lows. His official diagnosis is bipolar disorder, trichotillomania and generalised anxiety - a spicy mix to keep him on his toes.
In our regular interviews we chat all things neurodiverse and mental health. So far on the pod we've discussed autism, ADHD, anxiety, bipolar, binge eating, depression, suicidality and so so much more. We also drop bonus episodes across the season on topics we feel deserve a deep dive episode all of their own.
We have a lot of hopes for Differently Brained, but our main hopes are that if the content speaks to you, we hope that you feel seen, represented and maybe less alone or different. And for those of you that may not be able to relate to the content, we hope it widens your understanding and awareness and helps you better support those in your life who may want to have these conversations themselves. We hope that these discussions will help to break down the stigmas and misconceptions around neurodivergence and mental health, and normalise these conversations in our community.
I loved your pod interview with Kay! Listened yesterday and was struck by how you both put so much care into listening to your guests’ perspectives and bouncing off them 💕 Definitely a new fave ☺️
My pet hate is when interviewers have guests on and kind of just speak over the top of them but truly, you guys are amazing!! Loved it 🥰🥰
The intro ep is also great, which I listened to when walking my cat and was the loveliest way to pass time while she took me around to ✨every✨ plant in our garden!

Loving the podcast. Jacinta and Lachlan are so genuine and empathetic with their guests and the perspectives feel real and based on a lived experience.
The show takes a step beyond the medical, diagnostic conversations around mental health to focus on how they and their guests are living with and finding pathways through their diagnoses. It’s so helpful and refreshing hearing from real people and how they deal with their feelings and dealing with their diagnoses for better and/or worse.
Great show guys!

Hi! I came across your podcast and it’s great 🙏 As a late (41) diagnosed ADHD and yet to be diagnosed Autistic (hopefully next month), hearing more stories that resonate and make me feel less alone is amazing. Thank you! 🙏❤️
And thank you so much for the Kay Kerr interview. I am going through the process right now, even having to take time off from work to manage the exacerbated burnout from my assessment last week. Thank you 🙏❤️

Hey I just came across your page as I follow Dani Vee. I just wanted to say I can’t wait to hear the podcast! I’m a writer and AuDHDer, still very much trying to find my place in the world and keen to hear experiences I can relate to!

I came across your podcast after someone recommended it in a ND focused Facebook group i am in. I always trust the recommendations of other neurospicy folk. Podcasts have been a saving grace while I have been processing my diagnosis.

I don’t usually do podcasts (don’t have the attention span? 😆) but I’m enjoying this one. I love those moments where you can relate to someone’s experience and you feel a little bit more like you belong somewhere.
